If AI Companies Win the Lawsuit
When I started outlining this new blog post, I was flooded with messages about the previous one. I’m genuinely happy to see how my blog has sparked real interest and conversation among readers. Many of you asked me to dive deeper into what might happen if AI companies actually win the lawsuit — so let’s take a closer look at that scenario.
What This Lawsuit Is Really About
In short, the world’s biggest record labels have sued several AI music generation companies for copyright infringement and for allegedly copying existing songs. I’ve done some more digging into what the future could look like, and some of these thoughts are also my own reasoning and intuition. But the truth is — none of us really know what’s coming next.
When AI Gets a Free Pass
One particular news story caught my attention. Somewhere out there, a guy had generated thousands of songs using AI, uploaded them to streaming platforms, and then built a bot army to stream his own tracks nonstop. The result? Around ten million dollars in royalties.
If things like this start happening more often, streaming services will have no choice but to react and find new ways to protect the integrity and quality of their platforms.
If AI is given full freedom on the market, this scenario could become reality. The platforms could flood with endless amounts of AI-generated songs, and real, human-made music might disappear from visibility. That’s the worst-case scenario — and we also need to remember that fraud and manipulation will become much more common.
The Inflation of Music and the Fate of Musicians
If AI companies win the lawsuit, we’ll soon have more music than ever before — but its value will drop dramatically. Streaming royalties will shrink, and in the end, everyone loses — even those who use AI to crank out hundreds of tracks per month.
So what will musicians do then? Some will keep creating just like before, refusing to change anything. Others will feel that it’s no longer worth continuing, since AI-generated songs will dominate the market. Studios will suffer too, and many will end up closing their doors for good.
When Algorithms Decide What Music Matters
As Spotify and social media start overflowing with AI music, will the future become a place where algorithms favor only other algorithms? If that happens, and AI begins to decide what’s “in,” then those same algorithms will start creating exactly that kind of music — and everything will begin to sound even more alike.
How Musicians and Studios Can Respond
If this all comes to pass, how can musicians and studios fight back? My answer is simple: keep making music. Make different music. Make good music.
If the world changes, we just have to adapt. There will always be old-school warriors who refuse to take part in any form of AI — and all respect to them. Everyone has the right to stand for or against it, as long as we stay true to what makes us happy. My attitude is: “Let the storm come — it won’t shake me.
In the End
Even if all hell breaks loose, I believe musicians and studios will find a way to survive — and to keep doing what makes us happiest: creating music.
